This Game is Difficult
Cronos: The New Dawn is a challenging game that doesn’t pull its punches. While some players thrive on the difficulty, others just want to experience the story and atmosphere without the constant frustration of dying to the same boss for the twentieth time. Good news: even though the game doesn’t have difficulty modes, you don’t have to suffer through it’s default difficulty.
On Windows or the Steam Deck, these mods and tweaks can make Cronos significantly more approachable without completely removing the challenge. With mods, you can customize your experience so you can enjoy the game on your own terms.
The Mod: Game Difficulty of Choice
This is a set of mods that add difficulty modes to the game as well as other options to tweak the game in multiple ways.
If you use the easy difficulty mod (Story Mode), it doesn’t affect player or enemy damage - it makes ammo much more easily crafted and in higher amounts, health packs heal more, and all ammo/health packs stack much higher to maximize inventory space.
Other mods, such as “Weak Enemies” just cuts the health of all emmies by half. They still hit just as hard as before. Browse the mods and see which one fits the way you want to play the game and install it!
You can’t install multiple difficulty mods at once, but you can add some of the other mods to a difficulty mod. For example, “Story Mode” and “Weak Enemies” can be stacked to make a very easy mode.
How to Install the Mods
This is a quick outline on how to install mods. The video above walks through the process.
- Pick the mod you want to install and download it.
- Unzip the file.
- Copy the mod files inside the Zip (except for the the readme file) to the Cronos game folder under
\Cronos\Content\Paks. - The mod is installed!
- Note: There is no indictor in the game that the mod is active. You’ll just have to play the game and see if you notice changes.
- To uninstall, remove the mod files you copied and the game will go back to normal.
