Video Game Influence on Jazz

Adam Neely makes the case for why video game music is, or will soon be, the future of jazz. He explains why video game music is an extension of The Great American Songbook, a loosely defined canon of significant early-20th-century American jazz standards, popular songs, and show tunes that jazz musicians would reimagine or reinterpret. These were the pop songs of the era and video game music follows that same thread of influence on jazz musicians today. Will the established jazz scene accept this video game-fication of jazz? Only time will tell.

With performances by The 8-Bit Big Band.
